Aston Martin DBX707 Q by Aston Martin

Aston Martin’s vision is to be the world’s most desirable, ultra-luxury British brand that creates the most exquisitely addictive performance cars. Q by Aston Martin represents a key pillar of Aston Martin’s ultra-luxury strategy, giving clients the ultimate sense of freedom and expression when customising their cars and showcases exquisite British tailoring at its finest.

Taking inspiration derived from an iconic model from Aston Martin’s long, rich heritage this unique DBX707 showcases the pinnacle of the super-SUV segment in performance, and the epitome of customisation for an Aston Martin buyer.

Created in St Athan, Wales, this DBX707 echoes the characteristics of one of the earliest surviving true Aston Martin production cars globally. Built in 1923 and first raced locally in 1924, the car that has become known as ‘The Australian Green Pea’ was a sports model and one of only three cars imported to Australia under the stewardship of company founders Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin. It remains the oldest Aston Martin in Australia today and is well known around the world.

Celebrating the centenary of the car’s arrival in Australia, this unique DBX707 features bronze brake calipers, Jet Black roof rails and painted graphics featuring “7” on each side panel. Inside, an Eifel Green 12 O’clock steering wheel stripe and the original Aston Martin logo featured on the side of the centre console, completes the assortment of design features seen on ‘The Australian Green Pea’.

The result is a truly superb performance SUV that would satisfy even the most discerning buyer. Subtle exterior design features differentiate the DBX707 from the DBX, with a larger front grille and an all-new design for the day running lights, plus a new front splitter profile. Louvred bonnet blades that continue along the flanks, are made from carbon fibre on this DBX707, and combined with a deeper and more heavily sculpted side profile leading to the new lip spoiler. The significantly enlarged twin rear diffuser rises to meet the new large diameter quad exhaust system and to complete the rear-end changes, the new rear bumper has integrated quarter panel vents.

When I unlocked the DBX707, I would have preferred if the door handles automatically popped out as I was constantly worried that I would scratch the beautiful paint when I pressed the handle and pulled it out to open. There’s no need to slam the doors though as they have soft close and gently shut for you and on the interior, I really liked the cool arrow shaped metal door pulls.

Press the high-mounted start/stop button on the dash to awaken the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8. At rest the V8 gentle purrs patiently, ready for the next opportunity to unleash its power. The front mid-mounted “hot-V” turbocharged all alloy quad overhead cam V8 has maximum power of 707PS/697BHP/520KW at 6,000rpm. Maximum torque is a whopping 900Nm between 2,750 – 4,500rpm, so this 2.2 tonne plus SUV can do the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3.3 seconds! And it will go on to a top speed of 310km/h if you can find a jetty long enough to try this out. The official combined fuel efficiency is now 13.5L/100km and for my experience with this Sweet Pea, the onboard computer said I used 20L/100km.

There four on-road drive modes are GT, Sport, Sport+, and Individual with the suspension raising and lowering the DBX707 depending on drive mode selected. Under Individual mode you can adjust the suspension, steering, drive, and exhaust to your personal preference. But for me, Sport+ mode was just perfect mostly because the backend squats down, the V8 growls with intent under hard acceleration, and the exhaust sounds so good when it’s engaged. The DBX707 also has one off-road Terrain and you can see my previous experience driving the standard DBX off-road here. Separate from the drive modes you can adjust the stiffness of the dampers using one of the buttons on the centre console. You also have the option to raise and lower the vehicle or engage the loud exhaust as well.

Gear selection is made using the push buttons on the dash and the 9-speed ‘wet clutch’ automatic transmission that can be ‘manually’ changed using the slender and beautiful wheel-mounted carbon fibre paddle shifters. Stopping prowess is thanks to the standard fitment of Carbon Ceramic Brakes measuring 420mm front and 390mm rear, these discs are gripped by 6-piston calipers and result in a 40.5kg reduction in unsprung weight.

Q by Aston Martin delivers exclusive and immersive personalisation and the interior of this DBX707 demonstrates this meticulously. The two-tone leather seats are lovely to touch and have the unmistakable aroma of expensive leather. Both seats have power adjustment for recline, forward/back, seat height front and rear, and 4-way lumbar support with three memory positions. They are also heated and ventilated, but I found that the cooling was a bit noisy when in operation.

My children once again played their favourite game in the DBX707 ‘spot the surface that’s not covered in leather’. Spoiler alert, almost every part of the cabin you can see and not see is covered with leather. Under the centre console even the ledge where the wireless charger is located is covered with leather. As are the two sun visors, one for the windscreen and one for the side window, speaker covers, and even the drink bottle storage door cubbies in all four doors are leather-lined. The only part of the cabin trim I didn’t like was the gloss black on centre console, dash, and door trims as they attract dust and show finger marks on them.

The infotainment technology in the DBX707 is an older style, so the 10.25” central display is not a touchscreen and you still need to use the rotary toggle controller or the touch pad to navigate it and it only has wired Apple CarPlay still, but this will be updated from 2025 onwards. In the cubby under the arm rest there are two USB-A ports, one 12V socket and an SD card slot. In front of the arm rest there are two cup holders with removable mat located in the base to make spills easier to clean up.

The rear seats are very spacious with abundant head and leg room on offer for two adults to comfortably sit back there and admire and back of the front seats, which are made from carbon fibre. For younger passengers the DBX707 has two ISOFIX/three rear tether child seat restraint points, but because of the contoured rear seats it would be difficult to fit a car seat in the middle seat. If not in use the centre seat folds down as an arm rest with two very grippy cup holders or place a slim drink bottle in the rear door cubby, which is at a 45-degree.

They’re heated and ventilated as well, and like the front seats the ventilation is noisy to operate. Rear passengers get digital temperature and air speed operation and these can be controlled from the front also. The two central air vents and B pillar vents all have individual direction and on/off controls and there’s also vents under the front seats. Below the climate controls there are two USB-A ports.

The boot is a good size and I love the rigid leather covered parcel shelf. The powered tailgate has an open/close button under the tailgate, on the key fob and in the cabin located under centre console next to the wireless charge pad. There are four substantial tie down points that can be slid up and down on side rails on each side of the boot, one of which has a leather holder for your umbrella in this DBX707. If you need more space, you can release the 60:40 split fold rear seats using a button in the boot space and then manually fold the seats back up or open the centre seat separately to stow longer items. You can also raise and lower the SUV from the button located in the boot space and there is a temporary use spare tyre located under the boot floor.

The DBX707 does not have an ANCAP safety rating, but passengers are protected by airbags for driver, front passenger and knee and front thorax and side curtains. Active safety features include Auto Emergency Braking, Blind spot warning including Lane change warning, Forward collision warning, Rear cross traffic detection, Lane departure warning and Lane keep assist. I do like that when you engage adaptive cruise control the vehicles illustrating its operation on the 12.3” digital driver information display are the silhouette of the DB5. The DBX707 also has as auto lights and auto wipers and a 360-degre view reversing camera and 360-degree sensors.

All new Aston Martin vehicles come with a three-year unlimited kilometre and an extended warranty can also be purchased. The service interval for Astons is every 12 months or 16,000km whichever occurs first and a major service is completed every four years.
