Temerario Oceania launch

Over 250 esteemed guests and friends of the media recently gathered at Carriageworks in Sydney to mark a new milestone for Lamborghini with the Oceania launch of the Temerario, the new ‘Fuoriclasse’ or champion in the super sports car segment.

Demonstrating the significance of the event for the brand, there were some very important representatives from Lamborghini present including Stephan Winkelmann, Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and CEO, Federico Foschini, Automobili Lamborghini Chief Marketing & Sales Officer, Alessandro Farmeschi, Aftersales Director of Automobili Lamborghini and Francesco Scardaoni, Region Director of Automobili Lamborghini Asia Pacific.

“Australia is one of Lamborghini’s key markets and I am thrilled to be here to welcome our passionate customers and fans to the debut of the Temerario,” said Mr Winkelmann.

“As Lamborghini’s second High Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV), the Temerario marks a bold step forward in both performance and innovation while staying true to the brand’s DNA. With the Temerario, we mark the completion of a key chapter in the Direzione Cor Tauri plan, establishing ourselves as the first luxury automotive plan brand to fully hybridise the entire model range.”

Powered by a new twin-turbo V8 engine with three electric motors, the Temerario reaches an impressive 10,000 rpm as demonstrated by Francesco Scardaoni, Region Director of Automobili Lamborghini Asia Pacific during the launch event. Designed and developed in Sant’Agata Bolognese, it boasts advanced driving dynamics and a total power output of 677kW from 9,000 to 9,750 rpm and 730 Nm of torque between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm showcasing the unmatched performance and pioneering innovations that transcend conventional standards. The performance is eye watering, with the Temerario capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds and has a maximum speed of 343 km/h.

The new engine with the internal designation L411 is now one of the most powerful engines in the segment and the V8 biturbo alone delivers 588kW of power. The electric motor, in P1 position (between the V8 engine and the gearbox), ensures immediate response starting from low engine speed and continues consistently through gear shifts, working as a “torque gap filler” and improving the transient response, giving the sensation of linear and limitless progression up to 10,000 revs.

A major challenge of the powertrain was to keep the design as compact as possible. To achieve this, the engineers integrated the electric motor into the housing of the V8 biturbo, directly, without an intermediate clutch. This fills any turbo lag, no matter how small, at any speed delivering 300 Nm of torque. The entire electric drive unit is located compactly between the combustion engine and the 8-speed dual clutch transmission. This electric motor also works as a starter motor and three-phase generator.

The new drivetrain incorporates three electric motors in total with another two oil-cooled axial flow electric motors with a total peak output of 220 kW and up to 2,150 Nm of torque (the continuous output is 60 kW) driving the front axle when required to achieve all-wheel drive. Furthermore, the two electric motors on the front axle also improve the power output and can transform the new Temerario into a fully electric super sports car. In this way, Lamborghini reduces CO2 emissions by up to 50 percent compared to the Huracán.

“The Temerario is a high-performance electric vehicle that offers comfort when you need it and aggression when you want all while demonstrating Lamborghini’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions from their vehicles. But the Lamborghini lineup will remain with combustion engines for as long as the regulations will allow, including the iconic V12 currently powering the Revuelto,” shared Federico Foschini, Automobili Lamborghini Chief Marketing & Sales Officer with Driven Women Magazine.

From first glance, the Temerario reveals its Lamborghini DNA in its typical Lamborghini silhouette: clear and puristic lines, short and compact overhangs, integrated aerodynamics and a bold shark nose. The Lamborghini design language has evolved to create a new hexagonal Daytime Running Light (DRL) signature, rendering it strongly recognisable and identifiable from far away, so you can see the Temerario coming in your rear-view mirror. The hexagon concept can be found as the main design theme throughout the car: on the main bodywork, the side air intakes, the taillights and in the remarkable hexagonal exhaust pipe. My favourite view has to be from the rear though with the exposed Bridgestone Potenza Sport tyres on full show.

Over 400 body colors and special liveries will be available offering clients almost infinite customisation possibilities through Lamborghini’s Ad Personam program. Customisation is an important factor for Lamborghini and Mr Foschini loves to see the variety of colours and finishes at the end of the production line at the Lamborghini factory in Sant’Agata.

There were two examples of the Temerario on display at the launch, one Temerario in matt, Blu Marinus and a lightweight Alleggerita version, in Arancio Xanto. This is the first time a Lamborghini has debuted on the market with the ‘Alleggerita’ (lightweight) package, which is for customers more oriented towards track driving. It reduces the car’s weight by 12.65 kg through body components alone, with a reduction of over 25 kg when incorporating lightweight interior elements, carbon rims and titanium muffler, and is even more efficient from an aerodynamic point of view (+67% aerodynamic load).

The interior of the Temerario mirrors the exterior design, creating a balance between digital and physical experiences and compared to the Huracán, the interior of the Temerario has been completely redesigned, while at the same time further developing the design language first seen on the Revuelto. Thanks to the new spaceframe chassis, the Temerario offers significantly more interior space than its predecessor offering occupants a perfect connection and integration with the vehicle while at the same time providing a high level of comfort, true to the Lamborghini philosophy of “Feel like a pilot”.

The new spaceframe chassis concept increases headroom by 34 mm and legroom by 46 mm, plus a 4.8° increase in visibility and accommodates passengers up to 200 cm tall, even when wearing a helmet. This means that even the tallest drivers wearing a helmet can comfortably complete their laps on a racetrack. There is room for items such as sports equipment in the load compartment under the front hood with 112 liters of stowage volume available equivalent to two cabin trolleys and other everyday items can be stowed behind the seats.

Australia has the highest proportion of female owners of any country in the world, at 13% and on the sidelines of the Temerario launch event Driven Women Magazine spoke to Federico Foschini, Automobili Lamborghini Chief Marketing & Sales Officer about some of the factors influencing this.

Mr Foschini explained that Urus was an enabler for growth in Lamborghini sales, not only increasing the customer base, but also the number women, with 83% of Urus customers being new to the Lamborghini brand. The Urus is almost exclusively driven by the woman in the family because it’s suitable for a family lifestyle and is usable for daily driving thanks to its seating and boot space. In their model lineup, the Urus offers a sweet spot for Lamborghini, which is in a segment of its own, and 66% of Urus customers only looked at this super SUV before they purchased one because nothing else in the SUV market compares.

In addition, the #SheDrivesaLambo campaign, which was initiated by a female marketing manager in the USA has aimed to showcase the brand’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity, highlighting how Lamborghini resonates with women who are bold and uncompromising.

“SheDrivesaLambo has expanded from the USA to Europe, the Middle East and Australia and is important because in order to appreciate our cars you need drive them. Lamborghini has seen increased awareness, requests and success of these events,” said Mr Foschini. On his travels globally Mr Foschini is seeing more and more women enjoying and engaging with the Lamborghini brand and this in only natural according to him as there are no barriers from preventing them to do so.

This is something that I have always said as well, women should not be intimidated by how a Lamborghini looks and performs any more than a men are, and if they so desire it they should own one! Whether it be a Urus SE, Revuelto, or the new Temerario, you can configure yours on the Lamborghini website or visit a Lamborghini dealership for more information.
