Genesis Motors Australia has released an upgraded 2024 G70 that brings leading edge technology, comfort and convenience to the Genesis range, while refining the model’s sleek yet individual design identity of this luxury Sedan and Shooting Brake.
A styling refresh for 2024 G70 brings new emblems, a dynamic new wheel design, and additional exterior colours, in a sophisticated evolution that seamlessly blends tradition and innovation. The new front emblem features a guilloche pattern imprint on a reduced flat surface to highlight the convergence of analogue sensibility and advanced technology. Newly designed 19-inch alloy wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres emphasise 2024 G70’s premium and dynamic sports sedan image and in this new Kawah Blue colour the G70 3.3T Sport Luxury sedan really pops.
The 2024 G70’s ride and handling has been further refined by the introduction of new generation Electronic Control Suspension. Completely overhauled hydraulics are paired with a new control system to further enhance G70 sedan’s roadholding, comfort and driver engagement. The result is a smooth driving experience in the G70 sedan and a very nice ride even over bumpy roads.
The rear wheel drive 3.3T G70 is powered by an entertaining 3.3 litre, V6 petrol engine with twin, single-scroll turbochargers that delivers 274kW at 6,000rpm with 510Nm of torque between 1,300-4,500rpm. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, Limited Slip Differential, dual muffler with active variable exhaust, and a Brembo brake package to tick off the ‘Sport’ component in this G70’s title.
The drive modes available on this G70 are Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Custom. Under Custom mode you can adjust the Powertrain, Steering, and Suspension between Comfort or the more sportier options. In Sport and Sport+ modes the exhaust note deepens and Sport+ also turns the ESC off. The official combined fuel consumption 10.2L/100km and for my week I used 11.0L/100km mainly driving in Comfort mode with the occasional dip into Sport mode.
The ‘Luxury’ can be found on the interior of this G70 with a new 6.0-inch Touch Type LCD climate control panel provides a simple user interface while creating a high-tech image. While the 2024 G70’s leather-wrapped heated steering wheel features an updated Genesis emblem on the horn cover, along with a new multifunction switch, and powered steering column adjustment.
This new Fog Grey leather upholstery completes the updates, joining Obsidian Black and Sevilla Red quilted leather interiors. Being a mother and thinking about the mess that children can make, I am not a huge fan of light-coloured interiors and the upholstery on this G70 was already showing signs of discolouration even with less than 5,000km on the odometer.
Both front seats are heated and cooled and have power adjustment for recline, forward/back, seat height front and rear, and 4-way lumbar support with the driver’s seat also getting additional powered front leg extension and side bolster support, which automatically hugs your waste when Sport/Sport+ mode is engaged. Another handy feature is the additional button on the driver’s side of the passenger that allows the driver to adjust the recline and forward/back movement, something I find helpful when my elderly mother is in the car.
The G70 still has wired Apple CarPlay/Android Auto to connect your phone to the 10.25-inch widescreen infotainment system. The voice control worked well for me for making phone calls, but did not set a destination on the sat nav or change the radio station. So, I had to manually select between the other media sources available being DAB/FM, Bluetooth, USB music, USB video, and AM radio. The Sounds of Nature have also received an update with Outer Space Communication, Moment of Meditation, On a Sailing Ship, and City at Dawn added to Rainy Day, Warm Fireplace, and Lively Forest.
The cubby at the front of the centre console has a wireless charger for compatible devices with one USB-A port and one 12V socket located here. There is also one USB-C port located under the arm rest with two deepish cup holders in the centre console that have grippy sides and a removeable rubber base for easy cleaning. The front door cubbies are only suitable for medium sized drink bottles and are on an angle.
The outer rear seats are heated and nicely contoured offering ample head and leg room for me, but taller individuals will find the head room is a bit tight. There are two ISOfix and three rear tether child seat restraint points, but in reality, only enough room for two car seats due to the width and the contoured nature of the rear seats. The centre seat folds down as an arm rest with two cup holders in it that have grippy sides, which is handy as the cubbies in the rear doors are not suitable for the storage of drink bottles. The two central air vents have individual direction and on/off controls and there are two USB-C ports below the vents.
One thing Genesis do very well is the first aid kit and roadside assistance kit with handy items like gloves and a mat the kneel on when you are changing the temporary use space saver spare wheel. These are located in the good-sized boot that has four substantial tie down points with powered open/close available by pressing the button under boot lid, on the key fob, or in the cabin. I thought I was going to have to use the spare tyre, but then I realised that the G70’s front tyre pressure monitoring was either faulty or too sensitive as it went off multiple times during the time, I was driving the G70.
All variants of the G70 range have a 5-star ANCAP (2018) safety rating with an Adult Occupant Protection score of 30.9 out of 38 (81%) and a Child Occupant Protection score of 42.6 out of 49 (86%). All G70 models are fitted with the full suite of active safety measures including adaptive cruise control, forward collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist rear and a 360o surround view reversing camera in addition to a standard front and rear camera with front and rear sensors.
The 2024 G70 now also comes with Intelligent Speed Limit Assist that informs the driver of the current speed limit based on a combination of navigation data and road sign recognition (using the windscreen-mounted camera.) In addition, the system can assist the driver to change the set speed during Smart Cruise Control or Manual Speed Limit Assist driving. If the system recognises a speed limit change during their operation, a corresponding increase or decrease speed message is displayed in the cluster and on the Head-Up Display, prompting the driver to update the set speed using the +/- cruise control steering wheel buttons. I did find this system bonged a lot at me and I found it a bit annoying and I could not work out how to turn the bonging off.
ANCAP tests of the autonomous emergency braking system showed GOOD results with collisions avoided or mitigated in most test scenarios. ANCAP tests of lane support system functionality showed some GOOD performance, including several of the more critical emergency lane keeping test scenarios, and overall performance was classified as GOOD. The overall ANCAP Safety Assist score for the G70 is 81%.
One clever highlight on the G70 is the blind-spot view monitor projects a video in the driver’s dash when you indicate both left and right for added safety. I also really like that when you change the selection on the auto lights and wipers that it displays on the dash your choice, so you know what you have put them on as it can sometimes be a guessing game.
The 2024 G70 now features the latest generation of Genesis Connected Services and Over the Air software updates. This is in addition to the 5 Year / Unlimited km warranty on all G70s along with Complimentary Scheduled Servicing every 12 months or 10,000km for the first 5 Years or 50,000 km, whichever occurs first.
Genesis 24/7 Premium Roadside Assistance Program ensures once customers take delivery of their vehicle, they are seamlessly enrolled in our 5 Years, 24/7 Roadside Assistance program. This increases to 10 years if servicing is conducted by Genesis. Genesis to You Owners can also avail themselves to the Concierge Service and Courtesy Vehicle Service for 5 Years and this now has an unlimited kilometre limit for the delivery and pick up of your vehicle.
The distinctive Genesis G70 3.3T Sport Luxury sedan is a refreshing change from the wave of SUVs now on our roads. This Kawah Blue G70 has no optional extras fitted and is priced from $88,000 excluding on-road costs, which represents no price increase.
