Chery Australia has unveiled two new examples of the Omoda 5 to the Australian market at a unique location in Sydney. The wraps were taken off the Omoda 5 GT and the all-electric Omoda E5 in the basement of an old electricity substation in central Sydney.
Chery, who is the Number 1 vehicle exporter out of China, introduced the Omoda 5 to the Australian market in 2023 and so far has sold more than 6,000 units through an expanding dealership network that now numbers more than 70 locations across Australia. For 2024, Chery are looking for even more solid growth, with the Omoda GT and E5 being a significant part of that growth.
In 2024, the Omoda range will be enhanced with the addition of the GT model described as art in motion with a fusion of dynamics, Avant-garde, and fashion, so it’s clear who Chery are targeting in the Australian market, women.
GT models feature a more powerful 1.6L turbo petrol derivative producing an engaging 137kW @ 5500rpm and 275Nm @ 2000rpm as well as independent rear suspension (multi-link). The engine partners with an advanced and smooth-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, with the Omoda 5 GT available in both two-and all-wheel drive.
New features for MY24 include digital radio, frameless rear-view mirror with auto dimming function and a more powerful 50W wireless device charger. The GT model will also feature GT badging on the boot lid and a gloss black centre console.
The Omoda 5 MY24 maintains the same level of safety features and a range of smart technologies including connectivity options comprising of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Chery’s innovative “Hello Chery” voice control system. Grades and driveaway pricing for the Omoda line-up is as follows:

Chery Australia also revealed more details of the much-anticipated Omoda E5 electric vehicle (EV). The stylish and sporty SUV is set to make its debut in the Australian market in the second half of 2024, marking a significant milestone in Chery’s brand expansion.
Characterised by its innovative crossover design, the Omoda E5 is powered by a single electric motor that produces 150kW and 340Nm of torque, and a 0-100km acceleration of 7.6 seconds. Despite the battery supplier yet to be confirmed, Chery have a claimed power consumption of only 15.5kWh/100km and up to 430km (WLTP) of range.
The Omoda E5 is equipped with a variety of intelligent configurations, including a 12.3-inch super large curved screen, panoramic sunroof, a digital instrument cluster, and a wealth of exterior and interior colour options, providing both style and functionality.
The Omoda E5 will be available in two trim levels: Standard and Premium. Further details regarding pricing and specification will be announced closer to the launch, but Chery Australia did say at the launch that it will be competitively priced to similar EVs already available in the Australian market. One significant difference that the Omoda E5 can boast though is it will be equipped as standard with a full-size spare tyre.
