Recently launched in Australia, Dare To Be Different (D2BD) will ensure young girls around the country understand how they can get involved in motor sport, whether on track or off. The initiative aims to help young girls from around Australia to understand the opportunities that await them in the motor sport industry, whether it is as a driver, engineer, mechanic or one of the many other roles in a growing industry.
A series of exciting events aimed at increasing female participation in motor sport will take place in Australia over the coming months.
Toto Wolff, Susie’s husband, was representing her at the launch.
Several school events will be held across the country, beginning with a karting event in Port Melbourne on 21 September, followed by a session with Triple Eight Race Engineering in Brisbane on Tuesday 16 October. D2BD will also be part of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship finale in Newcastle from 23 – 25 November.
CAMS CEO Eugene Arocca said the remaining events in 2018 would help showcase the importance of the D2BD program.
“We’re really excited about ramping up our Dare To Be Different activities in the remaining months of 2018, before we get set for an even bigger 2019,” Arocca said.
“There is real excitement about this program from those in the industry and we are thrilled with how many people are throwing their support behind D2BD, including our confirmed ambassadors who play a vital role as female leaders in motor sport,” continued Arocca.
CAMS D2BD Ambassadors, who include Simona De Silvestro, Betty Klimenko, Romy Mayer, Molly Taylor, Jessica Yates and Emma Notarfrancesco will also be part of the events, sharing their wisdom and knowledge of the industry to encourage young girls to consider a career in motor sport.
The school events will cover a range of topics, including:
- STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) challenge
- Pit stop challenge
- Driving challenge (karting or simulator)
- Reaction / fitness challenge
- Media workshop
